There are many ways in which we work to support our Members. Lobbying has always been a key part of this and takes on many forms. Historically, we along with our lobbying partners (currently UKHospitality) have worked hard to identify the issues and challenges that our industry faces, for both Operating Members and Trade Associate Members. Over the years, some key successes have been relating to cutting VAT for leisure, daylight saving hours and the deregulation of school holidays. More recently, we worked really hard to support our Members during the pandemic by ensuring that Members received the most up to date restrictions, regulations and information on available government support. We worked closely with UKHospitality to ensure there was as much support as possible for businesses within our sector, both operators and trade suppliers. We enjoyed some successes with this throughout the pandemic in terms of the grant schemes, Job Retention Scheme, business rates reduction and VAT reductions.
Moving forward from the pandemic, we continue to work hard on the number of challenges our industry is facing and these issues include; the cost of living crisis, energy bills, business rates, issues surrounding recruitment and distribution as a result of Brexit.
In addition to our government lobbying, we also work very closely with HSE to ensure that we keep our Members up to date on the latest legislation, regulations as well as any other safety and security issues that may affect them.

Want to contact a particular Operating Member? As a Trade Associate Member, your unique password gives you direct access to the contact details of our Operating Members, listing relevant contacts at each attraction by job title.
BALPPA Members like to do business with people they know. As a Trade Associate Member you’ll be able to attend BALPPA’s numerous networking events held throughout the year. Our Members find these events extremely effective at getting to know each other. Fixed annual events include a Black Tie Dinner in January and a 2-3 day tour / conference in June and October. Throughout the year, we hold a number of educational seminars on specific topics and events are held around the key trade exhibitions. We also hold regular free webinars for our Members. Only Trade Associate Members can sponsor at our events and seminars or advertise in the BALPPA Bulletin. These two routes are an excellent way to raise your profile even further and help us keep the costs of events low for Operating Members. As a sponsor, you obtain a presence on all promotional literature ahead of the event, as well as at the event itself.
As a Trade Associate member, your details will be added to the Trade Associate Members section of the BALPPA website (viewable by Members and Non Members) and you’ll also be able to submit stories for our quarterly newsletter – the BALPPA Bulletin.
The BALPPA logo is a sign of quality, which you can use on your website, within your offices and on your business stationery. If you are a trade specialist, being able to show you are part of BALPPA is a massive endorsement for your business.
There are four Trade Associate Members who sit on BALPPA’s Management Committee and they are always looking for suggestions from Trade Associate Members to take the Committee. This is led by Trade Associate Member Chairman, Phil Pickersgill of Innovative Leisure.
Membership categories for Trade Associate Members are based on the number of employees your business has. Our membership year runs from 1st October to 30th September. When you join the Association, you will pay for a full 12 months of subscriptions according to your category of membership. Towards the end of your first year you will receive an invoice for a pro rata amount to take your membership to the 30th September to bring your membership in line with our year. From this point you will receive an invoice on an annual basis around the middle of September.
