Wicksteed Park launches new website

Wicksteed Park, the Northamptonshire based leisure attraction, has launched a new website to coincide with major improvement work and a host of major new features and rides.

The park is known as the home of childrens play after being founded in 1921 by Charles Wicksteed, who invented the modern day slide and swing as part of his vision to inspire and encourage play to boost families’ health and well-being.

The park has worked with Buckingham Design Associates to create the new site, which includes a new online booking system, a media centre and is viewable from mobiles and tablets as well as computers. It also features improved integration with social media and lots of easy to access information about the park and its attractions.

The new website coincides with the launch of one of the UK?s tallest and longest zip wires – called RUSH ? which has just been unveiled at the park. RUSH is part of an activity tower which comprises three zip wires to allow families and friends to take the plunge together, with helmet cameras to record the descent for a souvenir video.

It also includes a Leap of Faith, allowing people to dive from a 10 metre high platform with only a support harness to break their fall and a 14-metre climbing wall.

The £200,000 development, which has a top speed of 40mph and is as high as a six-storey building and 310metres long, is part of the park?s bid to offer innovative, adventurous and imaginative play opportunities for the whole family. The park has also undergone a major £2million lake restoration project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to further encourage people to enjoy its 147 acres of countryside, with developments such a paddling area for toddlers, a beach and a 90m pontoon.

Elsewhere in the park, a new natural play area is being built out of the park?s fallen trees to encourage children to climb and explore other areas. Other new attractions include a Bah Humbug hand-made sweet shop, Waxhands hand modelling and a refurbished café.

Wicksteed Park Managing Director Alasdair McNee said: “We wanted the new website to create a much better user experience as well as allowing visitors to book everything from rides wristbands and car parking to tickets for our daytime shows. We have introduced a new brand that more realistically reflects the park?s heritage as well as communicating the sheer variety of things to do at the park. Wicksteed Park also has a fantastic heritage which people can now learn about by visiting the website as well as accessing lots of information about the park and what is going on here”.

The popular visitor destination combines rollercoasters, rides and attractions with the tranquility and relaxation of an historic grade II country park and a nature reserve run by the Wildlife Trust.
